The Philippines has a shocking rate of deforestation, with its percentage of forest cover dropping from 70% to only 20% in the last century due to short sighted economic and political decisions. The plight of this countries wildlife felt even more real after I took a trip there a few years ago. I saw first hand what a paradise the Philippines could be if left as nature intended. Although there are 46 endangered species I chose to focus on this incredibly tiny, shy bird. I felt the incredible colours and patterns on the Ceyx melanurus would catch peoples attention bringing awareness to the cause.

After studying illustration at the University of Westminster, I spent many years experimenting with different mediums and styles before falling in love with watercolours. My inspiration comes from the beauty found in nature, for instance someones expression, botanical forms or colours and patterns found in wildlife. I hope to create compositions that accentuate the aesthetics of each subject, and at the same time make parallels between the similar forms and patterns found in nature.
