The reference for this image was of a lioness living in the wild. I purchased the photograph from American artist Aaron Blaise and was given the right to create and distribute personal and professional artwork based on the images I purchased from his trip to Africa. I have always been inspired by wildlife and that has influenced my art in all the mediums I use. I prefer to work from observation but I wanted to challenge myself to capture the beauty and majesty of one of the most powerful hunters in the world caring for and protecting her family in the same way I care and protect my family and grandfather.

My name is Leah Becker and I am an artist living in Nottinghamshire. I studied Interior Design at Teesside University. I have a passion for creating one-off decorative art pieces using all sorts of mediums from taxidermy (responsibly sourced) to mural design. I have recently moved to the midlands to care for my grandfather who suffers from Parkinson's disease. Since this move, I have found my self moving more towards illustration studying both digital and traditional and spending much more time trying to focus on improving as an artist, in these fields. While I still enjoy taxidermy I have found needle felting has become an effective substitute and is a much safer medium to handle around someone vulnerable.
